Sort Evaluator
Carreker's Sort Evaluator™ is a
PC-based product that provides a
comprehensive tool for testing and
debugging 389x/XP sort programs written
in both SCI and NATIVE languages.
By re-creating the 389x/XP environment
in a PC workstation, testing and
debugging can be accomplished without
the use of a Reader/Sorter.
The Sort Evaluator program runs
at a PC workstation and acts in the
same way as a document processor.
The product gives a sort programmer
who develops programs for the 3890/XP
Series document processors a set
of tracing, debugging, and timing
functions for the testing of sort
programs. It re-creates the operating
environment of the 3890/XP and can
process sort programs at any of the
following sort program execution
(SPX) events:
- Initialization
- Document
- Motors stopped
- Operator
Sort Evaluator can run in either
a stand-alone workstation, simulating
a host attachment, or a host-attached
workstation, communicating to an
application program at the host computer.
In the stand-alone workstation, Sort
Evaluator can simulate either on-line
or off-line operation. In the host-attached
workstation, it accepts initialization
data and codeline data match data
from a host application program and
sends read records to the host program.
DESCRIPTION
Sort Evaluator runs sort programs
that are written for the 3890/XP.
Its functions are similar to but
more expansive and flexible than
the functions in the Test Aid tool
of the 3890/XP MVS Support or 3890/XP
VSE Support licensed programs.
Sort Evaluator has the functions
of the 3890/XP's sorter control program
with these important differences:
- It does not require an attached
document transport module. The
program gets records from input
files and writes pocket codes to
an output file.
- It need not be attached to a
host computer to simulate on-line
operation. It reads codeline data
match records from an input file
and can write host computer data
to an output file.
- It can trace the running of sort
programs.
These differences enable you to
use Sort Evaluator to:
- Debug and test complete sort
program operation without monopolizing
a sorter.
- Determine whether sort programs
that were written for 3890 sorters
are compatible with the 3890/XP.
- Determine whether various sorter
control are correct and correctly
distributed on the disk subsystem
for a sorting run.
- Evaluate the performance of a
sort program to ensure that it
meets all timing constraints.
For tracing and debugging sort programs,
Sort Evaluator:
- Runs sort programs
- Runs traces of sort programs
- Supports the link to a host computer
- Times sort programs
- Provides a user interface
- Provides the test aid conversion
utility
- Provides a help message facility
