Emerging Payments: Three Companies Prove that One-Size Solutions Fits Nobody

Mike Reagan, Principal, Global Payments Consulting Carreker Corporation

Kansas City AFP Spring Seminar
Kansas City, MO
May 9, 2007

Making payment decisions grows ever more complex as new payment options emerge: BOC, RDC, ARC, traditional, etc.   These options have the potential to heavily influence Corporate Payables and Receivables transactions.  Our earlier research made the case that the value proposition for Remote Deposit Capture varies widely by business type.  RDC is letting banks expand their service reach beyond their traditional footprint.   SWIFT corporate access and RDC are shifting the balance of payments power to corporations who are in turn driving their own change.  As the potential of these options is emerging, increasingly experts are recognizing that global business, global M&A are being affected.

This session will briefly cover the status of these various payment options and standards, size and describe their potential impact.   It will identify how a few banks and companies are taking the initiative and how their proactivity is changing the landscape for all.  In closing, it will advise how audience members might take steps to determine their own best path and to manage their own risks in the interim.

Learning Objectives:

  • Up-to-date awareness of the status of multiple emerging payment/technology options
  • Understanding of three companies to illustrate the vastly different customer bases, distribution and therefore payment circumstances
  • Insights into why different companies need different decision paths as they work with their banks
  • General awareness of the magnitude of financial and customer satisfaction benefits involved, as well as the steps to determine them.
