Carreker
To Help Banks Secure A Central
Role In E-Commerce: Payments Leader
Announces New Positioning for E-Commerce-Enabling
Solutions that Transform Bank Core
Competencies into Profitable B2B
Lines of Business
(DALLAS, March 21, 2000) - Carreker-Antinori,
Inc. (NASDAQ: CANI), the long-time
provider of payments software and
services to the banking industry,
announced a major repositioning of
the company to help lead the banking
industry in maximizing its e-commerce
opportunity. The announcement includes
three parts: a comprehensive vision
for a significant e-commerce role
for banks in business-to-business
e-commerce, a realignment of the
company’s solutions to facilitate
banks’ e-commerce role, and
a new name and tagline for the company.
GartnerGroup has estimated the worldwide
business-to-business e-commerce market
at $7.29 trillion by 2004, while
Forrester Research projects the U.S.
portion to reach $1.3 trillion by
2003. Leading banks have, in recent
weeks, individually announced their
intention to invest heavily in exploring
their B2B e-commerce opportunity.
Carreker’s vision for banks’ e-commerce
role was summarized by Chairman and
CEO Denny Carreker. "As banks’ corporate
customers deploy their own e-commerce
strategies, they are quickly finding
they need to be proficient at things
they have never done before. Banks
already perform these functions with
high levels of quality and efficiency
but as internal cost centers. By
converting these functions to value-added
services that support their customers’ e-commerce
activities, banks stand to participate
directly in an exploding new business,
profiting from new revenue while
also forging powerful new customer
relationships."
Carreker went on to describe some
of the bank core competencies that
e-commerce companies are seeking:
fraud mitigation information and
processes, payment and settlement,
archiving of transaction information,
research and adjustments, customer
relationship management (CRM) activities
across all channels (in person, through
the call center, at the Web site).
"It’s a natural for banks," he
added. "Not only do they have the
right information and deep expertise
in these areas, but they also have
their regulated role at the heart
of the payment system. What that
adds up to is a position of enormous
trust in banks that hands them the
initiative for redefining the boundaries
in business-to-business e-commerce."
Carreker concluded, "Banks, like
every industry you can name, have
to re-evaluate their value proposition
in light of the Internet. The driving
question is: Do you have core competencies
that will be essential for e-commerce?
For banks, the answer is ‘Yes’.
Likewise for our company, a long-time
partner in developing those core
competencies in banks and now offering
leadership and solutions for the
Internet economy, the answer is also
a resounding ‘Yes’."
That vision accounts for the company’s
new tagline, enabling e-finance solutions™.
The company’s new name is
simply Carreker Corporation™.
This new name will be recommended
to shareholders for ratification
at the company’s annual shareholder
meeting. Independent market research
showed that clients found the name
Carreker to have strong brand equity
in terms of the qualities they value:
reliability, innovation, leadership,
and expertise.
Carreker’s solutions have
been realigned into three "suites," each
representing a core set of capabilities
that banks will require if they are
to maximize their e-commerce opportunity.
The Carreker solutions suites are:
- ePay™ – software
and consulting services that assist
banks in transitioning from paper-based
payment systems to electronics.
- eCash™ – e-commerce
solutions that enable banks to
realize a return from their non-earning
cash assets.
- eBusiness™ – consulting
services that help banks define
and realize their full revenue
potential from the Internet economy.
The company also displayed a new
logo that underscores its commitment
to helping banks in their e-commerce
business. The logo repeats the ‘C’ for
Carreker to form an ‘E’ for
e-commerce, and can be viewed on
