| BB&T
to Use Carreker Software
American Banker, May 10, 2004

Following are excerpts taken from
the May 10, 2004 edition of American
Banker article titled BB&T to
Use Carreker Software. The article
highlights BB&T's newly created
payments subsidiary, Creative Payments
Solutions (CPS) selection of Carreker's
Source Capture solution for remote
imaging of customer checks.
BB&T Corp.'s electronic payments
subsidiary has licensed check-imaging
software from Carreker Corp. that
allows corporate customers to scan
check images remotely for deposit.
The software, Source Capture, allows
corporate customers to turn paper
checks into electronic deposits,
said John Carreker, the president
of Carreker's global payments technology
group. "The bank processes that
just like it would a paper deposit."
Using Source Capture, corporate
customers can scan checks at their
offices and transmit them directly
to the bank. The software can verify
the quality of the image according
to standards set by the bank, which
can then track and verify the transaction.
The image verification is performed
by Image Inspector, another product
from the Dallas vendor that is integrated
into the version of Source Capture
licensed by BB&T.
Future versions of the software
will allow scanning at locations
such as ATMs and branches, Mr. Carreker
said. However, BB&T would have
to purchase these enhancements separately.
Both companies said the deal eliminates
the need for in-person deposits and
helps banks attract customers from
beyond the geographic limits of their
branch locations. A bank can set
its own policies for what becomes
of the physical check after it is
scanned.
